On May 20-21, the SMX Convention Center hosted Solar & Storage LIVE Philippines, a milestone event for the solar and energy storage industry. Among the selected and distinguished speakers was Dante Briones, Chairman and CEO of Sasonbi, Inc. (SasonbiSolar), one of the pioneers of the solar sector in the Philippines. He delivered a profound presentation on “Energy Mix Options for the C&I Sector” in the context of the Philippines’ energy situation.

Participating as well in a Fireside Chat alongside Carlo Caballero, Lead in Business Development for Commercial at PAVI Green Renewable Energy Inc., with the topic “C&I Rooftop Solar in the Philippines: Where Are We?” They discussed the situation of the use of solar energy within the C&I sector presently. Key points within this discussion were further highlighted in Briones’s subsequent presentation.

Briones underlined the urgency for the commercial and industrial (C&I) sector in the Philippines to diversify their energy mix to further improve sustainability, energy security, and cost-effectiveness. He called attention to the effect and continuous impact of solar energy within the environmental and commercial aspects in our current society. This is in contrast to the country’s heavy reliance on fossil fuels, which is associated with risks such as price volatility and environmental impact.

Addressing these challenges, Briones advocated for the integration of renewable energy sources, such as solar power. The implementation of such technology could see further use in remote areas that would otherwise be limited in terms of electricity and mobility (transportation).

Briones also covered the programs and incentives initiated by the Philippine government to further innovate and promote renewable energy integration or adoption. Furthermore, he alluded that with proper policy support, technological breakthroughs, and investments, the regulated use of renewable energy (such as solar) could achieve significant cost savings and reduce carbon footprints for sectors such as C&I.
